There has been some discontent with the current format of the SAP DB documentation.

The following input formats could possibly be made available:

• Word examples (2 MB)

• Open Office XML examples (3 MB)

• HTML (gruesome) all (1 MB)

It would be helpful if someone could write a tool to take any of these and write XML with a simple DTD (neither Docbook nor the Open Office DTD can be considered simple). This XML could then be used to generate a variety of formats.

What about Simple Docbook as a simple DTD? -- DerekNeighbors

Some possible ideas:

• PDF (doable today, but too much work involved)

• HTML with each book in a separate directory for easier searching

• a tool to translate error numbers into the message text and explanations

There is an Open Office to Docbook convertor available, but it's a currently a little buggy, at least with the above example documents. This could be used as a base for a convertor. Docbook or Simple Docbook may be a good intermediary, as tools exist to convert to PDF, HTML, etc.
